Details

Show off your cake shaping skills with this creative class and produce a carved cake covered in any suitable edible medium. The cake must be carved and shaped entirely by the competitor, no moulded tins allowed! The theme and decorations and up to you – are you up for the challenge?

Please note that individuals may enter up to a maximum of two entries per competition class and maximum of two classes.

This price also includes two complementary exhibition entry tickets per person for Saturday only. Attendance on Sunday will require additional tickets.

Additional Information

Class Rules
  1. Entries must comprise a carved cake covered in any suitable edible medium.
  2. The cake must be carved and shaped by the competitor. Pre-formed, moulded tins are not allowed (e.g. tins moulded into shapes of animals, spherical tins etc.). Separate tiers are not allowed – if several cakes are used they should be covered as one.
  3. At least 50% of the mass of the whole exhibit must be cake. The proportion of cake to marzipan and icing may be tested if it is deemed necessary, i.e. the cake may be cut.
  4. Decorative work may include any edible medium (Please note that if you are using silver, or other metallic or glitter colour on your cake it must be edible. Some glitters and metallic colours are classed as non-toxic and these are not edible).If using edible metallic or glitter dusts please leave a note with your entry to advise the judges which colour & brand you have used.
  5. No artificial or commercial decorations/items (including sugar balls, dragees or fairy lights) are allowed, apart from display pillars or tier supports.
  6. Internal supports are allowed but supports should not be visible.
  7. Competitors may model decorations by hand, such as sugar buds, flowers, foliage, twigs, fruit, berries, nuts, fungi, animals, birds, fish, people and figures (normal or comical). Flower and petal veiners/cutters may be used however all other moulds (e.g. SugarVeil, bead makers or cutters, embossing mats) are not to be used. If wires are used, these must not be inserted directly into the cake. Flower pics should be used. If food grade wax is used to protect the wires rather than a flower pic, the judges may remove the flowers from the cake to ensure that the wax has been used correctly.
  8. The Exhibit base is to fit within a 14” (35cm) square. Note that commercially produced 14” boards may occasionally measure slightly over 35cm. We will accept entries using such boards. There is no height restriction.
  9. Dummies are NOT permitted.
  10. Competitors should demonstrate a variety of skills.
  11. Competitors will be judged on: creativity and visual impact; balance of design and proportion; assembly; use of colour and use of medium; variety and execution of techniques used.
