Competition Class 5 - Painted Celebration Cake



Get creative with this freestyle class. Use edible paints, pastes, dusts or another edible medium to create a painted design that will wow the judges. Other decorative work may be used to complement the painted work as part of the overall design.

Please note that individuals may enter up to a maximum of two entries per competition class and maximum of two classes.

This price also includes two complementary exhibition entry tickets per person for Saturday only. Attendance on Sunday will require additional tickets.

Additional Information

Class Rules
  1. The Exhibit may consist of one or more tiers, and may be arranged/displayed as the competitor chooses.
  2. The cakes/dummies must be covered with sugarpaste (rolled fondant) OR royal icing.
  3. Painting skills/painted design must be demonstrated and should form a significant part of the overall cake. Painting may be done using a variety of edible mediums including edible paints, pastes, liquids, dusts, brush embroidery.
  4. Other decorative work may be used to compliment the painted work as part of the overall design. Decorative work may include any edible medium such as royal icing, sugarpaste, pastillage, Mexican paste, gum paste, Unbreakable Gel, gelatine, edible colours etc. (Please note that if you are using silver, or other metallic or glitter colour on your cake it must be edible. Some glitters and metallic colours are classed as non-toxic and these are not edible). If using edible metallic or glitter dusts please leave a note with your entry to advise the judges which colour & brand you have used.
  5. Competitors may model decorations by hand such as sugar buds, flowers, foliage, twigs, fruit, berries, nuts, fungi, animals, birds, fish, people and figures (normal or comical). Flower and petal veiners/cutters may be used however all other moulds (e.g. SugarVeil, bead makers or cutters, embossing mats, lace mats) are not to be used. If wires are used, these must not be inserted directly into the cake. Flower pics should be used. If food grade wax is used to protect the wires rather than a flower pic, the judges may remove the flowers from the cake to ensure that the wax has been used correctly.
  6. Decorative ribbon around the edge of the board is allowed.
  7. No other artificial or commercial decorations/items (including sugar balls or dragees) are allowed, apart from display pillars or tier supports
  8. The Exhibit base is to fit within a 14” (35cm) square; there is no height restriction
  9. This class is a freestyle design following the theme of a Painted Celebration Cake
  10. Competitors will be judged on: creativity; visual impact; balance of design; proportion; assembly; use of colour; use of medium; execution of techniques used; smoothness of cake covering and neatness.
